This rancid message was changed from mentioning Diarrhea and nausea to just Diarrhea. "Blödsinngar" is essentially meaningless, at least going by Google. The early script is missing an important space in the second line between "Blödsinn" and "gar". "Im" is correct, while "in" was understandable but still incorrect. Melee.Īn early unused German script can be found in the US ROM, which was changed/fixed a bit for the European version.Ī simple grammar fix. This alternate name would notably be used as the name of the first stage in Donkey Kong 64, as well as the Donkey Kong stage in Super Smash Bros. The first level of the game was originally named Jungle Japes, rather than the retail version's Jungle Hijinxs. Merely a spelling fix for the final version.Īpparently Slippa was named Hister before the game was finalized. Unfortunately, the top of the script has been overwritten, so any other differences cannot be determined. It's largely the same, and only three differences in game dialogue exist. The first is an enemy tip, while the second would be said when Cranky is finished talking.Īn early version of the game script can be found in the ROM, starting at address 2DE076. Two more of Cranky's lines aren't referenced in the pointer table. The only ones that can be seen normally are from the first world, but lines exist for almost every level in the game! Some of these tips are present and used in later remakes, and Cranky gives tips in every world in the sequel. More importantly, the lines below individually identify DK and Diddy, which doesn't happen in the final game this is odd, because Funky's lines identifying individual characters do work.įor whatever reason, almost all of Cranky's level tips were removed from gameplay. Some lines, especially in the ending, still seem a lot more kindly than Cranky would end up being in the sequels and external materials. The text data begins at ROM address 3C03C8.Ĭranky seems to have gone through a personality change during development, from "nice old man" to "angry old man". Notably, palettes very similar to these are used in the Game Boy Advance remake-the only difference is that the wing colors were switched.Ĭranky has a large number of lines that never pop up when you visit him. Likewise, two additional flavors of Zinger were planned to appear in the game.

Here are 25 things only super fans remember about the weird Donkey Kong Country TV show.Grey/Purple palette address: 3C8DDC to 3C8DF9 Typical trademarks of a Saturday morning cartoon, but things that look so bizarre when we're talking about a bunch of apes who just want to eat bananas all day. This includes heroes and villains alike acting completely out character, plots having to deal with magic, far out science and outer space.

Not only are the visuals some of that 1990s CGI that makes you tilt your head in disbelief, but the plots and characters are so wildly different than those from the games that you can do nothing but laugh. Shows like The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, The Legend of Zelda and Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm I would wager are worse, but this one is definitely one of the weirdest.

Now to be fair to this cartoon, this is far from the worst video game cartoon ever.

But there's got to be a black mark on all this success and that would be the Donkey Kong Country cartoon series that ran from 1997 to 2000. This all pulled off big time resulting in a sequel that is considered one of the best games on the Super Nintendo and a string of success for developer Rare that would be bonkers nowadays. The first game in 1994 came along with hype never before seen in a game with a massive marketing strategy that made sure everybody know just revolutionary the pre-rendered 3d graphics were.
